The private super yacht Lady Maura was the ninth largest of private yatches when launched in 1990. It has however now gone down the list to number 24. The Yacht is 344ft long and is known for her elegance, beauty and luxury. What captivates most people who see Lady Moura, is her name carved in 24 carat in gold at the stern.
The Yacht is owned by Nasser Al-Rashid, who founded Rashid Engineering. He is a Saudi businessman who is a billionaire and rumored to be an advisor to the Royal Saudi family.
The designing of this mega yacht was carried out by Blohm & Voss along with Italian architect and designer Lulgi Sturchio. The superstructure and broad hull is entirely made with steel and two KHD-MWM diesel engines that pump out more that 6700 bhp to power propel all this. The super yacht can reach a speed of up to 20Kn. The aesthetic appeal in her design is owing to the hydraulics systems, which cover the anchor, navigational lanterns, life rafts and other mechanical parts; doors, flaps, covers and roofs, tucked in neatly. All parts of this yacht are easily accessible thanks to multiple platforms, cranes and gangways.
Lady Maura like many other private Arab yachts has had the open space reduced which is generally meant for sun bathing and has made up for this space by extending the lavish interiors, to be more culturally suited. Lady Mauro carries with her a S76B Sikorsky helicopter and there are rumours that she also carries a ski nautic boat in the garage along with Boston Whaler and a Venetian Taxi. As her tenders she also carries a pretty Mangusta 80 boat and a San Juan 48 foot sail boat. There is also a sandy beach provision where a rectangular platform covered with sand, slides out from her side.
This yacht is now over twenty years old and still stands beautiful thanks to the best of German engineering with Italian design. The yacht was last 2007 refitted.
